FAIR data principles
FAIR data is about making it Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. These principles emphasize the importance of making research data easily discoverable, facilitating access to the data, ensuring compatibility with other datasets, and enabling data reuse. They are crucial guidelines within the realm of open science, promoting effective data management and open access to research data. SND, as part of its efforts, aims to align the national research data catalogue with the FAIR criteria. However, researchers also have a vital role to play in this endeavor. At our organization, we take the utmost care to uphold fair principles in every aspect of our data handling practices. Let's delve into how we have considered each letter in "fair" to ensure our data follow the standards.
F: We ensure that our data is easily accessible and findable for researchers, individuals, and other stakeholders through our website. We have implemented a user-friendly interface that allows users to navigate and search for specific datasets or information of interest. Our website provides clear and organized data catalogs, enabling researchers to explore available datasets and access relevant documentation. We strive to communicate openly with our citizen scientists ensuring they have a clear understanding of how their data is being handled.
A: Our data is accessible on our website through a simple account creation process. By creating an account, users can explore and download datasets tailored to their research interests. Account registration ensures data privacy and fosters collaboration among researchers. We prioritize both accessibility and data security in providing a seamless user experience.
I: Ensuring data interoperability is a key priority for us. We employ standardized formats, open data protocols, and industry best practices to enhance the compatibility and interchangeability of our data. By adhering to widely accepted data standards, we enable seamless integration with various tools, platforms, and systems.
R: The data stored on our website is carefully structured to ensure its reusability. We provide easily accessible and downloadable datasets in standardized formats, allowing researchers and individuals to utilize the data in their own analyses and studies. By organizing the data and providing clear documentation on its source and methodology, we enable users to understand and effectively reuse the information. Our goal is to encourage collaboration, innovation, and the generation of new insights through the seamless reuse of data stored on our website.
We also recognize the importance of continuously evaluating and improving our data practices. We regularly assess our processes, engage in ongoing training and education for our team, and seek feedback from individuals and stakeholders to enhance our fairness practices.
By adhering to these fair principles, we aim to foster trust, protect individual rights, and contribute to the responsible and ethical use of data. Our commitment to fairness goes beyond mere compliance; it drives our mission to positively impact society while respecting the rights and dignity of all individuals involved in our data ecosystem.

Ethical aspect with our sensor
When collected data is used for research, it is important to consider the ethical aspects involved. Since the collected data may contain sensitive and personal information, the data collector needs to give consent for its use for the intended purpose. Therefore, in the development of our sensor and game, there have been several ethical aspects to consider. When families are collecting ocean temperature data, there are ethical considerations around sharing that data that has to be considered. Open data practices can contribute to scientific research and environmental monitoring efforts. However, concerns about privacy and the potential misuse of sensitive data should also be taken into account. Therefore families will be informed about the purpose and potential uses of the data they collect and how it will be used.
The sensor is equipped with GPS technology that enables precise location tracking, which raises concerns about individual privacy. When GPS data is collected alongside temperature measurements, it is important to inform about the potential privacy risks and explain how we ensure that individuals' location information is handled with care, consent, and in compliance with relevant privacy laws and regulations. When starting the app individuals will have to approve that their location is used for the game as well as data collection to make sure their privacy has been taken into account.
Ensuring that the temperature sensors used by families are accurate and reliable is crucial. Inaccurate or unreliable data may lead to incorrect conclusions or misinterpretations, potentially impacting scientific research and decision-making processes.
All of the above has been taken into account when developing the sensor and the game to make sure that everything turns out right for all involved parties.
